Melinda’s Thoughts 11/27/23

Hello. This fall has been one of the most beautiful I have ever seen. I felt like I was walking on art. I had the most wonderful surprise the other day. A former Client’s wife came to the office. We had provided care in 2014! It was so much fun to see her. Our Clients and their families truly do become part of our No Worries family. About No Worries: The transition to our new owner, Caleb, has been going extremely smoothly. I will be here another two weeks and then we will be moving to Salt Lake City where we have a ton of family including 5 grandchildren. I leave with so many incredible memories and love for our Clients, their families, our Caregivers, and our Administrative Team. It has been a meaningful 27 years and I am grateful to be leaving No Worries in such capable hands. Take Care. Melinda

A new dream…For 27 years No Worries has been my dream come true. Incredible Caregivers, Clients who have taught me dignity and wisdom, Family of Clients who have inspired me with their love and devotion. So many special memories. Now, as I am about to turn 65, I find that all I want to do is be with family…especially our 12 grandchildren.

The process of figuring out the best situation for No Worries has had its twists and turns. I have involved our outstanding Administrative Team in every step. The Administrative Team helped interview buyers. It was a unanimous “Yes” when we met Caleb and his wife Ellie.

What a relief it was for Jim and I to know that the culture and commitment for quality for which we had worked so hard was consistent with Caleb’s values and would be preserved.

Jim and I will be retiring on December 7th. I know that Worries will thrive with Caleb’s leadership and expertise. I also know I will miss all of you very much!

Hello from Caleb. I am honored to be the new owner of No Worries. I have previous home care experience, including owning and operating an In-home Care agency with 120 employees. When I’m not working, I spend time with my wife Ellie and our children Holly (2 years) and Rowan (8 months). I am also involved in our church.

I am grateful for Melinda’s leadership and am committed to maintaining her focus on quality care. My initial work as a part of No Worries will be to bolster our recruiting efforts to hire and retain the best caregivers in our area. I’m also planning to implement technology that will be convenient for everyone we work with, such as TapCheck for caregivers (an immediate after-shift payment option) and an electronic payments option for clients. I look forward to working with you in the months and years to come.

Congratulations Haley! Haley was just approved by the Oregon Health Authority as our Administrator. Haley’s story is one of following your dreams. Haley came to No Worries 7 ½ years ago as a Certified Home Health Aide. Haley loved Caregiving but had always liked working with numbers and accounts and Jim said he would train her for bookkeeping if she took some intro classes. Haley came in for 3 months on her own time to train. Haley became a part-time bookkeeper, then full-time bookkeeper, then Office Manager, Accounts Manager, Assistant Administrator and then in January of this year completed the two-year training program for the Administrator position. Congratulation Megan who has been promoted to be our Nursing Services Manager. What a Team! Thank you to our Veterans. I know that every day I enjoy freedom and safety because of the dedicated service of those who have served in our Military. Your sacrifices are appreciated and honored on Veteran’s Day Saturday, November 11th. Happy Feet: There just is nothing better than having comfortable feet. We recently celebrated Megan and Torie’s Birthdays and they are each enjoying comfortable feet! I know it is cold outside but I love wearing sandals and I am continuing to wear them because happy feet equates to happy people. Take Care. Melinda

Hello I have been deeply affected by the terrorist attacks in Israel. I have wondered how to cope with the grief and shock of the atrocities. I am a supporter of the Holocaust Memorial Museum and receive their e-mails. I received this letter from them and it has inspired me to appreciate, even more, the strength, beauty and resilience of these great people. By following their example, I can cope with the reality of evil in our world and not live in fear for humanity but in commitment to helping overcome this evil. Take Care, Melinda

An Open Letter on the Hamas Attacks from a Community of Holocaust Survivors

We are Holocaust survivors who volunteer at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, sharing our experiences with the public. We are always gratified to see how much interest there is from young people from every part of the world. To hear their comments and questions gives us hope for the future.

Today, as we see the murderous destruction in Israel, that hope is dimmed. All our lives we mourned for our loved ones lost to the genocidal actions of the Nazis and their collaborators, but we hoped the lessons of the past could shape a different future. Today we mourn for Israel that holds such special meaning for us.

In our youth, we were proud Jews in our communities throughout Europe. Eventually, that meant escape or certain death. We wanted to flee, but no one would take us. We longed for freedom and security, but there was no Jewish state. Today, the State of Israel is the guarantor of a Jewish future, but it is under horrific assault by Hamas terrorists. Today, men, women, and children are again targeted as Jews. Today, we witness the worst killing of Jews since the Holocaust.

This is not what we expected in this final chapter of our lives, as we contemplate our legacy, the future of Holocaust memory and education, and the future of our people. We write this letter to humanity in sorrow but also in hope. We know pain few can comprehend, having seen our families and communities obliterated. We are living proof that the unthinkable is always possible.

We are also living proof of resilience. That we can rebuild as our fierce determination demonstrates. We must be realistic about the dangers, but we must never despair. That would be a victory for those seeking to destroy us. That is why memory and education become more important with each passing year. And why we are proud of our contributions to fortify new generations to face the challenges that lie ahead. We promised our loved ones we would never forget and never give up. Especially at this darkest of moments, that remains our promise and our challenge to humanity.

Hello. Did you know…if you are taking Biotin be sure to let your Provider know before having lab tests. The FDA has warned that Biotin may affect some lab test results…some higher and some lower. Your Provider may have you stop the Biotin for a period of time before your labs. A question for you, “Are you sleeping on an old bed that isn’t that comfortable?” Experts say your bed should be changed at least every 7-10 years. Many will eat healthy and exercise and then sleep on an old uncomfortable bed and not be getting good sleep. A good bed is a wise investment. Welcome back…We have been so fortunate to have another Caregiver come back to work with us. Stella just moved back into town. Stella, her sister and her Mom used to all work with us and it is great to have Stella back with us providing awesome care. Take Care. Melinda

Melinda’s Thoughts 08/21/23

Hello. I have once again been reminded of how healing nature can be. I saw a social media post with that theme and it got me thinking. I have been working a lot and getting my strength back from COVID and I thought I would check to see if I could get a hotel room at the coast. I didn’t think I had a chance, but one room was available in Lincoln City. I couldn’t believe it and Jim was thrilled. We went to the coast on the spur of the moment. I came back revived! The sound of the waves lulled me into the best sleep I have had in ages and walking on the beach was energizing. The following weekend we had long-standing plans to go to Timberline Lodge with our friends. I wanted to experience the mountain and ride the lift. The guys didn’t but Sonja and I had an incredible ride up the mountain. I agree with John Burroughs in his famous quote about nature and healing “I go to nature to be soothed, healed and have my senses put in order.” Take Care. Melinda

Hello. I discovered something I thought you might want to know about. I was going through our checklist at a Supervisory Visit and the fire extinguisher our Client had in her home was small and something that could realistically be used. We usually see the big red canister fire extinguishers. However, they are big and so may be stored in the garage. This small fire extinguisher can fit under the kitchen sink. I purchased a small fire extinguisher and then noticed that Amazon now sells a set that includes a small fire extinguisher and a Fire Blanket. Great combination!  Interesting Fact: Did you know you lose a liter of fluid a day just by breathing. Now add activity or a lot of talking and your fluid loss goes up even more. Then it turns into summer and you are sweating in the heat losing even more water. Be sure to get enough fluids to keep you from getting dehydrated. Keep track. You may be surprised how little you drink! About No Worries: We are so excited to welcome back 3 Caregivers: June, Trisha and Whitney. Take Care. Melinda

Hello. A recent illness had me thinking about my toothbrush. I realized that lots of germs must be on that toothbrush. I started to soak my toothbrush in mouthwash and then when I was no longer sick, I changed toothbrushes. Our office: We are thoroughly enjoying our new office. Stacy and Haley have updated their areas and I noticed that Stacy was updating her Dream Board. It reminded me of how a few years ago we sat around a table with a lot of magazines and made dream boards. It is stunning all of the dreams that have come true. If you don’t dream and then put your dreams in a place you can see them every day then they won’t happen. There is power in knowing what you want to have happen in the next 6 months, year, and 5 years. Don’t wait to start to make those dreams come true. Take Care. Melinda
